Align, Accelerate, Achieve

The Alignment Workshop That Changes Everything

The Strategic Alignment Workshop That Changes Everything

Theory becomes strategy through structured conversation. We find that most of the time you cannot do these from Zoom sessions. These need to be in-person, closed-door whiteboard sessions. Week 2's workshop transforms assessment into action through five structured sessions:

Session 1: Reality Confrontation (3 hours)

Present unfiltered current state assessment. Be honest and transparent. No softening, no excuses, no politicking. Show the data reality, organizational metabolism, hidden capabilities, competitive gaps, and cultural readiness. Enable your leaders to acknowledge the starting point.

Disney's transformation began with admitting that its streaming AI was three years behind that of Netflix (they did not want to become the next Blockbuster). This honesty enabled their identification and strategy to facilitate leadership in the streaming market.

Session 2: Vision Pressure Testing (4 hours)

Drafting a Vision Meets Reality. For each vision element, map required capabilities against the current state. Calculate investment requirements. Estimate timeline implications. Identify critical dependencies. FedEx discovered that its autonomous delivery vision required urban infrastructure changes beyond its control; they pivoted to AI-optimized routing, saving $450 million annually.

Session 3: Bridge Building (3 hours)

Connect reality to vision through specific initiatives. Each bridge must specify:

  • The capability developed

  • The value delivered

  • The investment required

  • The success metrics

  • The failure indicators

Create 15-20 bridges; you'll execute 5-7. This portfolio approach strikes a balance between risk and ambition.

Session 4: Resource Reality Check (2 hours)

Vision without resources is a hallucination. Catalog available budget, talent, and time. Compare to the requirements. The average gap: 3x. Force priority decisions: what won't we do? Who will we reassign? What will we stop? Capital One stopped 30 traditional IT projects to fund its AI transformation. Document these trade-offs.

Session 5: Commitment Ceremony (2 hours)

Public commitment creates accountability; many companies and leaders are socially committing to many of these things as well via platforms like LinkedIn. Each executive states their specific commitment, including the resources provided, obstacles removed, and success metrics achieved. Record these commitments. Display them prominently. Reference them constantly. Amazon's AI commitments are printed on conference room walls; visible during every decision.

The Execution Reality: From Strategy to Operations

Strategies don't fail in formulation; they fail in translation. Week 2 must produce five executable deliverables:

Deliverable 1: The One-Page AI Strategy Distill everything into one page:

  • Current reality (3 bullets)

  • Future vision (3 bullets)

  • Strategic bridges (5 bullets)

  • Resource commitments (3 bullets)

  • Success metrics (3 bullets)

If it doesn't fit on one page, it won't fit in executives' minds. Spotify's one-page AI strategy is referenced in every product meeting.

Deliverable 2: The 90-Day Sprint Plan Identify three initiatives that demonstrate progress within 90 days—visible wins. Kroger's first sprint: AI-powered checkout, reducing wait times by 40%, this provided immediately visible, immediately valuable to Kroger and the customers. Your sprint plan needs similar tangibility and quantifiability.

Deliverable 3: The Communication Cascade Create seven versions of your vision:

  • Board (ROI focus)

  • Employees (job security focus)

  • Customers (experience focus)

  • Investors (growth focus)

  • Partners (collaboration focus)

  • Regulators (compliance focus)

  • Media (innovation focus)

Same strategy, different emphasis. Tesla maintains 12 versions of their AI narrative.

Deliverable 4: The Learning Architecture Strategy assumes you're wrong about something. Build learning mechanisms: weekly hypothesis reviews, monthly metric assessments, quarterly strategy adjustments. Walmart adjusts its AI strategy every 11 weeks based on the insights it gains from learning. Design your learning cycles before you need them.

Deliverable 5: The Failure Protocol Define failure scenarios and responses now, while rational. What metrics trigger strategy reassessment? When do you pivot versus persist? How do you communicate setbacks? Netflix documented 15 failure scenarios for their gaming AI before launching. This preparation enabled rapid recovery from initial failures.

Sophie Buonassisi | GTMfund
Topic: The rules of fundraising for B2B SaaS are changing. AI is no longer a "nice-to-have" feature; it has become the fundamental engine for the most promising businesses. VCs are no longer impressed by companies with AI features simply tacked on. Instead, they are looking for deep AI integration, the creation of a "data moat," and a clear ability to use AI for operational efficiency and to drive demonstrable ROI for customers. This is what will truly get a company funded in today's competitive landscape.

Can you enrich data just from a phone number? 📱

That was the question in our GTM Slack channel this week - and it hit a nerve for anyone building automated GTM workflows.

Turns out, most tools fall short. Apollo and PDL can’t reliably enrich from numbers alone, and Instantly’s free tier offers limited data. Even with paid plans, results are inconsistent unless you pair multiple sources.

A few community members suggested digging into niche APIs (like Truecaller) or custom scrapers, but there’s no clear winner yet.

Bottom line:
Phone numbers are still one of the hardest identifiers to enrich at scale. If you’re building automations, plan around it - not with it.

Data isn’t the bottleneck anymore. Data quality is. ⚙️
