The Most Differentiated Content Your Company Has Is Still in Your Founder's Head
A 4-step framework for turning founder beliefs into content competitors can't copy
How to extract a founder’s expert POV and turn it into content that actually differentiates
Your CEO says "we should do more thought leadership." Marketing writes a blog about industry trends. It reads like every other SaaS blog. Doesn't differentiate. Doesn't position. Doesn't sound like anyone in particular.
Without a founder's actual opinions, you're just reshuffling content that already exists. More AI slop. More "5 trends in [category]" posts that could've been written by anyone or anything. Topic-first content doesn't generate new discourse. It generates noise.
Differentiation in content comes from one place: net new opinions that haven't been said. Founder beliefs, contrarian positions, personal experience — the stuff they say in board meetings and sales calls but never publish. VC-backed competitors can outspend you on volume. They can't replicate a genuine POV.
The problem isn't that founders don't have strong opinions. It's that nobody's extracting them systematically.
What I learned working with a fintech AI startup
The founder had personally lived the problem the product solved. I uncovered 9 core beliefs, 7 contrarian positions, and multiple origin stories. None of it was published. Meanwhile, a competitor with $15.5M in funding had produced a documentary film and 10+ press articles from a single fundraising round.
Beliefs beat best practices as content ammunition. A contrarian position that only your founder holds creates content competitors can't copy, no matter how much budget they have.
The expert POV extraction framework
Step 1: Run a 12-question async interview (5-10 mins)
Don't start with a live call. Founders give better, more considered answers async. Send 12 questions across 6 dimensions: beliefs, contrarian positions, industry critiques, personal experience, predictions, and mission. Founders can dictate answers with Wispr Flow in minutes. A follow-up call digs into the most interesting threads.
Step 2: Build the belief map (~2 min with Claude Code)
Organize answers into a structured map: Belief → Evidence → Contrarian Level (High / Medium / Low).
Step 3: Map contrarian positions
Each row is a ready-to-publish LinkedIn post, newsletter section, or conference talk. I mapped 7 contrarian positions. Each became a content thread with months of ammunition.
Step 4: Extract the narrative OBI (One Big Idea)
From the belief map, identify the single governing narrative, the lens for all content, messaging, and positioning. The OBI feeds everything: LinkedIn, sales conversations, investor narratives, hiring pitches.
I've built this as a systematized Claude Code skill that grounds founder POV with ICP insights, what your buyers actually care about and competitor gaps, what nobody else is saying.
I run this framework as part of my positioning and messaging work with B2B SaaS startups. It's the first thing I do before writing a single line of copy.
What One Async Session Produced
From one async session with no follow-up call: 9 core beliefs extracted, 7 contrarian positions mapped, 4 origin stories documented, one governing narrative that connected product positioning, brand voice, and content strategy.
Each contrarian position became a content thread, months of differentiated material. The founder's practitioner credibility became the trust signal a competitor with 10x the PR budget couldn't replicate.
The total time investment: ~30 minutes. The belief map now grounds content strategy, LinkedIn thought leadership, and SEO. all from the founder's actual POV, not reshuffled industry content.
Now imagine this at scale. Run the extraction across 3-5 executive leaders. Each develops their own OBI. Each posts on LinkedIn with positions that connect back to the company narrative. That's a content engine no competitor can replicate because it's built on opinions only your team holds.
